Parameters of a good directory

What are the main factors that you consider while selecting a directory? Is it the domain authority or the page rank or the ranking of that directory? When I search the internet, I come across various directories however at times it is difficult to determine which directory will provide with the maximum benefits to my website.

When it comes to an article directory, I would think in terms of the domain authority and page rank of the directory. I will also check if it offers with dofollow links, only then I will get complete benefits for the keywords I am working on. Moreover I also consider the Alexa rankings of the directory. Alexa provides with the most dependable information of the traffic coming to any website. If all these parameters are good, then I go ahead for using that directory.
